Michael Fernandez  (Michael Fernandez File Photo | For The Patriot-News\/PennLive.com\/Michael Fernandez File Photo | For The Patriot-News\/PennLive.com) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Hunters with opinions on several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorkupstate.com\/outdoors\/2026\/03\/ny-state-wants-hunters-to-kill-more-does-to-reduce-deer-population-proposes-changes-to-regulations.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.newyorkupstate.com\/outdoors\/2026\/03\/ny-state-wants-hunters-to-kill-more-does-to-reduce-deer-population-proposes-changes-to-regulations.html\">proposed changes to deer hunting regulations in New York<\/a> have until May 17, 2026, to share them with the state Department of Environmental Conservation. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In March, DEC announced several proposed regulations aimed at getting hunters to kill more doe or antlerless deer to better manage the state\u2019s growing deer population.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">DEC\u2019s most controversial proposal is the establishment of an \u201cEarn-a-2-buck\u201d system that would require hunters to kill an antlerless deer before getting a tag to kill a second buck. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Other proposals would increase the number of Deer Management Permits in some Wildlife Management Units, with the potential for individual hunters to receive up to four DMPs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Details of the proposed regulations, including a comprehensive FAQ, are available on DEC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/dec.ny.gov\/regulatory\/regulations\/proposed-emergency-recently-adopted-regulations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/dec.ny.gov\/regulatory\/regulations\/proposed-emergency-recently-adopted-regulations\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">DEC is accepting comments on the proposed regulations through May 17.
