WILLIAMSBURG \u2014 Inside the converted Williamsburgh Savings Bank in Brooklyn \u2014 built in the 1870s, now the site of luxurious events held beneath stunning Victorian architecture \u2014 the Rolling Stones kept their fans wanting more.<\/p>\n
Earlier Tuesday, the band confirmed that they will release a new\u00a0record,<\/a>\u00a0titled \u201cForeign Tongues,\u201d this summer, and dropped a new single called \u201cIn The Stars.\u201d<\/p>\n Journalists, VIPs and celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio, Odessa A\u2019zion and Lindsey Vonn waited in the echoing hall to witness Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood\u2019s first conversation about the new album.<\/p>\n To celebrate, they invited\u00a0comedian Conan O\u2019Brien<\/a>\u00a0to host the exclusive announcement event. It was a hilarious choice. \u201cI think this is the one, after years of toiling in obscurity,\u201d he joked about \u201cForeign Tongues,\u201d minutes before the band joined him on stage. \u201cThis is their time.\u201d<\/p>\n What we know about \u2018Foreign Tongues\u2019 so far<\/p>\n \u201cForeign Tongues,\u201d recorded over the course of a month in London, will be released July 10.<\/p>\n The Stones\u2019 last album was\u00a02023\u2019s \u201cHackney Diamonds.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0It was their first album of original material in 18 years \u2014 since 2005\u2019s\u00a0\u201cA Bigger Bang.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0It was also their first full-length release since the death of\u00a0drummer Charlie Watts<\/a>\u00a0in 2021. He appeared posthumously on two of that album\u2019s 12 tracks.<\/p>\n \u201cForeign Tongues\u201d will also include a special appearance from Watts, lifted from one of his final recording sessions before his death. \u201cWe did that in L.A. with Charlie,\u201d said Jagger of the song. \u201cIt\u2019s real fast, a punk-rocker.\u201d<\/p>\n The album will also feature contributions from Steve Winwood,\u00a0Paul McCartney,<\/a>\u00a0the Cure\u2019s Robert Smith and the Red Hot Chili Peppers\u2019 Chad Smith.<\/p>\n \u201cI think Paul (McCartney) really wanted to jump in there,\u201d Jagger said at the event. \u201cThere was no intimidation. He wanted to play with the band.\u201d<\/p>\n The Stones also worked with their close collaborators Matt Clifford, drummer Steve Jordan and bassist Darryl Jones as well as Oscar-winning pop producer Andrew Watt (known for his work with\u00a0Post Malone<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Justin Bieber,<\/a>\u00a0and the Stones\u2019 \u201cHackney Diamonds,\u201d to name a few).<\/p>\n When something isn\u2019t working in studio, the band said Watt is the one who kicks them in to gear. The room erupted into cheers for him \u2014 including his parents, who were seated directly behind him \u2014 and O\u2019Brien compared the \u201cimmediacy\u201d of the new album to \u201cExile on Main Street.\u201d<\/p>\n The band also spent time detailing the record\u2019s artwork. \u201cLet\u2019s reveal the album cover, I call him Mr. Ugly,\u201d said Jagger, before the cover appeared on the screen above their heads. \u201cHe\u2019s pained by a famous new artist called Nathaniel Quinn.\u201d<\/p>\n Quinn, who was seated in the front row, said it was an amalgamation of the band members\u2019 faces and a depiction of their journey.<\/p>\n A taste of \u2018Foreign Tongues\u2019<\/p>\n
