NEW YORK (TNND) — A 28-year-old woman allegedly impersonated a student at a New York City high school for two weeks before the principal grew suspicious and police arrested her, according to a criminal complaint.

Kacy Claassen reportedly enrolled at Westchester Square Academy in the Bronx on April 13, claiming to be a 16-year-old girl named Shamara Rashad, a New York City police officer wrote in the complaint obtained by WABC.

As suspicions grew, the principal discovered Claassen’s Facebook page, which revealed her real name and age. Her social media profile lists her as being from Hays, Kansas, and mentions a “beautiful daughter.”

When confronted, Claassen allegedly maintained that she was Rashad and claimed she had moved to New York from Ohio with her sister.

She later confessed after being shown the social media page, admitting her true identity and age. According to the complaint, Claassen said a friend encouraged her to lie so she could receive additional public assistance.

Police charged her on April 27 with endangering the welfare of a child, criminal impersonation, and trespassing. She was arraigned the same day and is scheduled to return to court on June 15.

In a statement to WABC, an NYC Schools spokesperson said:
