GLU, the genre-blending solo project of\u00a0Michael Shuman\u00a0(Queens of the Stone Age, Mini Mansions), delivers a brand new summer anthem-in-waiting with new single \u2018LA<\/a>\u2019. The superb release will be part of GLU\u2019s brand new EP\u00a0PONY BOY<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 out\u00a0August 14th\u00a0on\u00a0FLG.<\/p>\n

Capturing the spirit of an LA summer, \u2018LA\u2019 is a nostalgic tribute to home at its core. It\u2019s personal, effortlessly uplifting and features a standout vocal contribution from lifelong friend\u00a0Lily James.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing an LA native, I have a lot of pride for this city,\u201d\u00a0Shuman explains.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve been on the road most of my life, but I\u2019m always drawn back home to LA. Long term, it\u2019s hard to imagine anywhere else I\u2019d rather live. This song represents that nostalgic feeling of endless summer, and was written and recorded 4 years ago, but I thought now was the right time for it to be released. It\u2019s very special to have Lily on this track and I\u2019m glad that we can still continue to support each other creatively in all of our endeavours. She is a lifelong friend and I think her voice has never sounded better.\u201d<\/p>\n

The EP has already delivered two thrilling offerings in the striking, reimagined cover of\u00a0Jennifer Paige\u2019s \u201990s pop classic \u2018CRUSH\u2019<\/a>, as well as the infectious title track \u2018PONY BOY<\/a>\u2019. Today \u2018LA\u2019 ups the ante and shows yet another dimension to the GLU project.<\/p>\n

GLU first emerged in early 2023 with debut EP\u00a0MY DEMONS<\/a>, a raw and revealing release exploring struggle, loss, addiction, and childhood trauma. In 2025, GLU hit a new high point with the single\u00a0\u2018BOOGIE MAN<\/a>\u2019, an infectious, dance-forward track about losing yourself in the moment and letting go of self-consciousness. Drawing comparisons to\u00a0Jamiroquai,\u00a0Gorillaz, and\u00a0Mac Miller, the song secured a major sync placement in MLB The Show \u201825 alongside\u00a0Kendrick Lamar\u00a0&\u00a0\u00a0De La Soul. The track pushed GLU past 3 million global streams.<\/p>\n

That momentum has also translated directly to the stage, with tours and headline dates across the UK, Europe, and the US. GLU has toured with\u00a0The Kills,\u00a0Blood Red Shoes,\u00a0Miles Kane\u00a0& more, alongside UK headline shows of its own. Earlier this year saw GLU support\u00a0The Blue Stones\u00a0across three big UK shows including the O2 Forum Kentish Town.<\/p>\n

Radio support from\u00a0BBC Radio 1\u00a0and\u00a06 Music, as well as glowing press from the likes of the\u00a0NME<\/a>,\u00a0Rolling Stone<\/a>\u00a0& more, has further established GLU as a project operating well beyond \u201cside project\u201d territory.<\/p>\n

With its fearless approach to reinvention and emotional honesty, GLU\u2019s continue a year of exciting activity, whilst blurring genres, stripping away pretence, and creating music that feels both personal and relatable.<\/p>\n
