{"id":224538,"date":"2026-05-08T13:47:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T13:47:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/224538\/"},"modified":"2026-05-08T13:47:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T13:47:08","slug":"sushiro-is-opening-first-nyc-conveyor-belt-sushi-restaurant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/224538\/","title":{"rendered":"Sushiro Is Opening First NYC Conveyor Belt Sushi Restaurant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\">A huge J<a href=\"https:\/\/www.akindo-sushiro.co.jp\/en\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">apan-based conveyor belt sushi chain<\/a> is opening its only American restaurant in New York City. <a href=\"https:\/\/sushiro-usa.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sushiro<\/a> will open in Times Square at 667 Eighth Avenue at West 42nd Street, next to the Port Authority Bus Terminal, this fall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\">Sushiro\u2019s NYC location will serve what it describes as affordably priced sushi, noodle soups like ramen and somen, and steamed egg custards, as well as desserts such as catalana (a creme brulee-like custard), warabimochi (mochi often dipped in powders and\/or syrup), and sherbets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\">The NYC 9,000 square foot, 170-seat restaurant takes up three floors of the Eighth Avenue address (formerly a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcdonalds.com\/us\/en-us\/location\/ny\/new-york\/661-8th-ave\/39704.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">McDonald\u2019s<\/a>). The main conveyor belt dining rooms are on the first and second floors, with a private dining room in the cellar with a sushi bar. Sushiro was founded in Osaka in 1984, and since then, it has grown with over 800 locations across the world, operating under parent company Food &amp; Life Companies, according to a rep.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\">At Sushiro, people seated in booths order through digital kiosks, then pick up their drinks and dishes on the belt that threads from the kitchen to the dining room.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\">The business had been teasing its American debut with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/sushiro_america\/tagged\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pop-ups<\/a> in the past couple of years. (There was a <a href=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/2015\/11\/25\/9799212\/le-garage-llama-inn-service-station-and-more-open\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">similarly named Sushiro location<\/a> from 2015 to around 2017, but the rep notes that it wasn\u2019t related to the Japanese company.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\">Sushiro is one of the bigger conveyor belt sushi companies, making its mark in NYC. Another Japan-based chain, Kura Sushi, opened in <a href=\"https:\/\/patch.com\/new-jersey\/hoboken\/sushi-conveyor-belt-kura-restaurant-opens-jersey-city\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jersey City<\/a> in 2022, followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/2023\/2\/13\/23594092\/kura-sushi-opening-flushing-queens-nyc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Flushing<\/a> in 2023, especially now, during a time when more restaurants are looking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eater.com\/23433524\/robots-restaurant-workers-first-person\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">automation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A huge Japan-based conveyor belt sushi chain is opening its only American restaurant in New York City.
