Also, free events include Green-Wood Cemetery\u2019s \u201cDay of the Dead\u201d celebration, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music\u2019s Halloween celebration and Hudson River Park\u2019s \u201cPumpkin Smash.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fresh off her star-turn in \u201cCabaret at the Kit Kat Club,<\/a>\u201d Marisha Wallace<\/a> makes her New York City cabaret club debut at Caf\u00e9 Carlyle \u2014- the supper club where greats like Bobby Short<\/a>, Eartha Kitt and Elaine Stritch<\/a> ruled the roost with residencies decades ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew how iconic it is to play in that room, and that they don\u2019t let just anybody play in there,\u201d she told The Daily News. \u201cYou have to be of a certain caliber and a certain salt. And, you know, I\u2019m just coming back to the city after making my star rise on the West End. I didn\u2019t know if they would like to take a chance on me this quickly, and they did, and it\u2019s just been so exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the spirit of Halloween, Wallace plans to conjure up the spirits of great female voices who are no longer with us: \u201cI decided I wanted to resurrect all of the famous singers of the past from the cabaret scene like Billie Holiday and Eartha Kitt. And I\u2019m even bringing back Whitney\u2026\u00a0I want to bring back Amy Winehouse and other tragic and incredible blues singers and soul singers of the time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Accompanied by a four-piece band, Wallace \u2014 who just released her debut album, \u201cLive In London<\/a>\u201d \u2014 will continue her mission to bring back \u201creal music.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cI want to bring back the golden age of the voice [because] I feel like a lot of that has been lost, you know, in this era where we\u2019re trying to be so modern and everything. But\u2026they were doing something then that I think we need now, and that\u2019s storytelling and really using the music to tell the story and the story was also universal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Halloween lands on a Friday this year and AMC Theaters<\/a> is marking the occasion with its first theatrical first-run double feature in almost two decades.<\/p>\n

Cinephiles who want to get spooked out can see both movies back-to-back\u2014for the price of one ticket.<\/p>\n

\u201cGone Girl<\/a>\u201d star Rosamund Pike<\/a> joins Matthew Rhys<\/a> (\u201cThe Americans\u201d) for BAFTA Award winner Babak Anvari\u2019s psychological thriller \u201cHallow Road,\u201d about a family\u2019s life unraveling after their teenage daughter calls to say she killed a pedestrian on the road.<\/p>\n

In \u201cVincent Must Die,\u201d French theater actor-turned-filmmaker St\u00e9phan Castang makes his feature-length directorial debut with a satirical black comedy thriller about a docile graphic designer (Karim Leklou) who learns that everyone he makes eye contact with is trying to kill him \u2014 because he was infected by a plague.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s still time to catch Es Devlin\u2019s \u201cCongregation,\u201d a tiered sculpture made up of large-scale chalk and charcoal portraits of 50 Londoners who have experienced forced displacement from their homelands.<\/p>\n

Devlin is a British artist and stage designer whose credits include projects for U2, Beyonc\u00e9, Adele. and The Weeknd. She was inspired to create the work after being \u201cmoved\u201d by the U.K.\u2019s support to Ukrainian refugees: \u201cI wanted to understand why we have not yet been drawn to show an equivalent abundance of support to those displaced in comparable circumstances from other countries including Syria, Sudan, South Sudan, Afghanistan, Yemen, Eritrea, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and many more,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Polyphonia<\/a> composed the accompanying soundscape of \u201cCongregation,\u201d which also features poetry by JJ Bola<\/a> and extracts from Max Richter\u2019s \u201cRecomposed.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no better way to bridge the time between Halloween and Christmas than with Tim Burton<\/a>\u2019s beloved 1993 Disney movie \u201cThe Nightmare Before Christmas<\/a>,\u201d which coming to life once again with an immersive outdoor trail featuring video projections, music, smoky cauldrons, giant pumpkins and scenes complete with characters such as Jack Skellington<\/a>, Sally, Santa Claus, Zero and Oogie Boogie.<\/p>\n

Appropriate for all ages, the trail boasts more than 8,300 square feet of light installations, interactive video projections and 3D-printed sculptures. This year\u2019s exhibition includes four new scenes along with new refreshment and merchandise booths.<\/p>\n

The Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos will be commemorated with an event for families and friends to honor their deceased loved ones during an afternoon filled with crafts, music, dance performances and cuisine.<\/p>\n

A highlight of this year\u2019s festivities is acclaimed artist Laura Anderson Barbata<\/a>\u2018s \u201cReposo y Recuerdo (Rest and Remember)\u201d ofrenda installation, which has transformed Green-Wood\u2019s Historic Chapel into a luminous, interactive altar and gathering space shaped by the contributions of the community.<\/p>\n

After the \u201cMonster Mash\u201d on Halloween, folks can come out to Hudson River Park\u2019s annual \u201cPumpkin Smash,\u201d where they can bring their own gourds for crushing into seasonal waste to be used as a fertilizer.<\/p>\n

Participants can choose from a selection of bats, hammers and shovels to get to smashing. 6,000 pounds of leftover pumpkins were crushed into compost during last year\u2019s event.<\/p>\n

The non-profit community music school is hosting a free, family-friendly Halloween garden party in its 144-year-old Victorian mansion \u2014 that some say is haunted. Organizers said attendees will experience \u201csome talented musical spirits \u2026 giving a spine-chilling performance\u201d as part of the Park Slope Halloween Parade.<\/p>\n

The party will continue at 7:15 at the Old Stone House.<\/p>\n
