{"id":226863,"date":"2026-05-11T06:06:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T06:06:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/226863\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T06:06:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T06:06:13","slug":"baseball-splits-doubleheader-with-manhattan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/226863\/","title":{"rendered":"Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Manhattan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n                    &#13;<br \/>\n                        Story Links&#13;<br \/>\n                        &#13;<\/p>\n<p>                    <a href=\"https:\/\/purpleeagles.com\/sports\/baseball\/stats\/2026\/manhattan\/boxscore\/17768\" style=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Box Score 1<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/purpleeagles.com\/sports\/baseball\/stats\/2026\/manhattan\/boxscore\/17767\" style=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Box Score 2<\/a> <\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Pomona, NY &#8211; Niagara baseball split a Sunday doubleheader with Manhattan taking game one 14-9, before dropping the nightcap 14-3 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Purple Eagles moved to 24-17-1, 19-8 MAAC, while the Jaspers moved to 18-29, 9-18 MAAC.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Game One<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Niagara struck first with two runs in the first. <a href=\"https:\/\/purpleeagles.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/elijha-hammill\/9325\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"9325\" target=\"_blank\">Elijha Hammill<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/purpleeagles.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/curtis-mckay\/9328\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"9328\" target=\"_blank\">Curtis McKay<\/a> singled to put runners on base, and both eventually scored on a wild pitch and a <a href=\"https:\/\/purpleeagles.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/rees-kozar\/8568\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"8568\" target=\"_blank\">Rees Kozar<\/a> fielder&#8217;s choice.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Manhattan answered in the bottom half when Vincent Samuel plated Lordier with a sacrifice fly, making it 2-1 after one.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Purple Eagles blew the game open with a nine-run third. Hammill led off with a home run to left and Kozar followed with his own solo shot to left. <a href=\"https:\/\/purpleeagles.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/nick-cote\/9366\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"9366\" target=\"_blank\">Nick Cote<\/a> then doubled and Tyler Vivacqua singled home Cote, then stole second. <a href=\"https:\/\/purpleeagles.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/jason-green\/8569\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"8569\" target=\"_blank\">Jason Green<\/a> drilled a two-run homer to right center, scoring Vivacqua. <a href=\"https:\/\/purpleeagles.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/jacob-brooks\/9316\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"9316\" target=\"_blank\">Jacob Brooks<\/a> launched a two-run shot. Hammill singled, McKay doubled him home, and Kozar followed with an RBI double down the left-field line as Niagara led 11-1 through three.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Manhattan roared back with a seven-run fourth. Hunter Sute walked to force in a run, while Colin Basehore and Jackson Brinker each singled home a run. With the bases loaded, <a href=\"https:\/\/purpleeagles.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/jack-dickinson\/8565\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"8565\" target=\"_blank\">Jack Dickinson<\/a> replaced Bennett and Lordier doubled in two more. Salva added a sacrifice fly, and Lordier later scored on a balk to cut the Purple Eagles lead to 11-8.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Niagara got a pair of insurance runs in the sixth as Green crushed a two-run homer to right to push the lead to 13-9.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Hammill recorded an RBI single, and McKay&#8217;s sacrifice fly scored Brooks to make it 14-9 in the seventh.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Manhattan added a run in the eighth, but <a href=\"https:\/\/purpleeagles.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/eddie-dolansky\/9320\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"9320\" target=\"_blank\">Eddie Dolansky<\/a> held on to secure the 14-9 victory for Niagara.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Game Two<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Niagara got things started in the nightcap with two runs in the top of the second as Cote scored on a Ganschow sac fly, and Brooks followed that up with an RBI single to plate Vivacqua.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Jaspers broke through in the bottom of the third, plating six runs. Samuel started with an RBI single, then Lewis hit a three-run homer to right center.
