Gov. Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani don\u2019t agree on everything \u2014 and that now includes who should represent Lower Manhattan and part of Brooklyn in Congress.<\/p>\n
Hochul endorsed Rep. Dan Goldman for re-election on Monday, putting her at odds with Mamdani, who has endorsed former City Comptroller Brad Lander in the race.<\/p>\n
Speaking to a crowd of hundreds of union members at a rally in Lower Manhattan, Hochul lauded Goldman for leading the first impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe stood up to power and he was ferocious and courageous,\u201d she said. \u201cThose are traits that I gravitate to. This business is not for the faint of heart.\u201d<\/p>\n
Polls show a tight race between Goldman and Lander.<\/p>\n

Goldman is a centrist Democrat who\u2019s supported by the prominent pro-Israel lobbying group AIPAC.<\/p>\n
Mamdani and Lander cross-endorsed each other in last year\u2019s ranked-choice Democratic primary for mayor. Both are vocal critics of Israel\u2019s war in Gaza.<\/p>\n
The competing endorsements are the latest wrinkle in Hochul and Mamdani\u2019s political partnership.<\/p>\n
The governor and mayor jointly announced nearly $2 billion<\/a> in funding for childcare early in Mamdani\u2019s tenure \u2014 a huge step toward fulfilling one of Mamdani\u2019s signature campaign promises. Mamdani endorsed Hochul\u2019s re-election campaign in February.<\/p>\n But Hochul has reportedly been irked<\/a> by the repeated calls by Mamdani and his progressive allies to \u201ctax the rich\u201d by imposing higher income taxes on the state\u2019s top earners.<\/p>\n
