Naccarato noted that the parade originated as an Italian-America celebration, but the demographic of participants evolved over the years.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor our Brooklyn parade, the main difference is that it involves so many community groups and local people,\u201d said Naccarato. \u201cIt\u2019s not just an Italian-American event; we have so many participants of different ethnic backgrounds, and that\u2019s what makes it great. It brings out the unity in our neighborhood.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Naccarato, who has been involved in organizing the parade for around 30 years, still refers to himself as \u201cthe new kid on the block.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s good to see kids participate as well, and witness their happiness,\u201d he said, adding that it brings out the child even in adults.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bridging the rich diversity of Brooklyn\u2019s multicultural communities<\/p>\n
FIAO of Brooklyn is a nonprofit community service organization founded in 1976. FIAO was created to unite various organizations and provide services that bridge the rich diversity of Brooklyn\u2019s multicultural communities.\u00a0<\/p>\n
FIAO\u2019s mission is to improve the quality of life for all residents by offering free programs and services. These include after-school programs, mental health counseling, legal assistance, social services and wellness initiatives. The organization serves over 7,000 individuals annually.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A cornerstone of FIAO\u2019s efforts is the Il Centro Community Center, a 44,000-square-foot facility located in Bensonhurst. Il Centro offers a wide range of programs, including aquatics, fitness, arts and cultural activities.
