On Monday night, Will Sammon of The Athletic<\/a> reported that the Mets were calling up their No. 2-ranked prospect A.J. Ewing<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The move comes after the well documented struggles and injuries of the Mets, currently holding the worst record in all of Major League Baseball. With Luis Robert Jr. out, the Mets are in need of consistent center field play, and this move looks to pair that with a youth movement.<\/p>\n

Ewing has been tearing the cover off of the ball so far this season across two levels. The 21-year-old is slashing .339\/.447\/.514 with 13 extra base hits, 11 RBIs and 17 stolen bases. His patient approach mixed with elite speed should help the Mets get more traffic on the base paths, and a paring with Carson Benge<\/a> in the outfield will provide defensive consistency.<\/p>\n
