STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Service on the Staten Island Ferry was suspended for a short time Thursday as a storm battered Staten Island.<\/a><\/p>\n

Around 11:50 a.m., emergency transmissions indicated that ferry service was suspended because of a power outage at the St. George Ferry Terminal.<\/p>\n

A Staten Island Railway train rider also reported hearing an announcement that was suspended around noon.<\/p>\n

A Department of Transportation spokesperson later confirmed that there was a brief power outage in the late morning that affected some parts of the St. George Ferry Terminal in the morning. <\/p>\n

According to the spokesperson, power has been restored and normal ferry service has resumed as of 1 p.m.<\/p>\n

Two employees of businesses located inside the terminal reported that the outage lasted between 15 and 20 minutes. <\/p>\n

An employee at the Statue of Liberty Deli told an Advance\/SILive.com reporter on the scene that they were forced to close their store during the outage.<\/p>\n

As heavy rain and high winds pelt Staten Island, more than 1,600 people are reported without power<\/a>, primarily in the neighborhoods of Richmond, New Dorp and Oakwood. <\/p>\n
