We will keep New Yorkers informed as we monitor and respond to the situation. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qtATks2MN9\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/qtATks2MN9<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dr. Alister Martin (@NYCHealthCommr) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NYCHealthCommr\/status\/2053889747257291149?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">May 11, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThree New York state residents who were passengers on the MV Hondius cruise ship arrived at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska,\u201d Martin wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The commissioner said that the NYC Health Department is working with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state\u2019s health department.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cAt this point, we do not know how long these individuals will stay in Nebraska and whether or when those individuals will return to New York,\u201d Martin said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Martin stressed that the risk to New Yorkers remains extremely low.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The World Health Organization also called the risk low, and said the situation was not another COVID.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfsb.com\/2026\/05\/12\/spain-reports-new-hantavirus-case-passenger-evacuated-cruise-ship-outbreak-grows-11\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wfsb.com\/2026\/05\/12\/spain-reports-new-hantavirus-case-passenger-evacuated-cruise-ship-outbreak-grows-11\/\">Eleven cases of hantavirus<\/a> were confirmed from the cruise.
