{"id":229498,"date":"2026-05-13T02:52:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T02:52:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/229498\/"},"modified":"2026-05-13T02:52:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T02:52:15","slug":"francisco-alvarez-exits-game-early-in-latest-mets-injury-concern","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/229498\/","title":{"rendered":"Francisco Alvarez exits game early in latest Mets injury concern"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The hits keep coming for the Mets- and the good kind.<\/p>\n<p>Francisco Alvarez left Tuesday\u2019s game against the Tigers with a right knee injury in the bottom of the sixth and will undergo imaging on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The catcher was in discomfort following a swing with A.J. Ewing at second base, and after a brief visit from the training staff, Alvarez was removed from the game and replaced by pinch-hitter Luis Torrens, who drew a walk.<\/p>\n<p>Alvarez, who\u2019d cooled off this season, drove in a run and doubled earlier in the game against Detroit right-hander Jack Flaherty.<\/p>\n<p>The Mets already had plenty of injury concerns before Alvarez went down, as Luis Robert Jr., Jorge Polanco and Francisco Lindor are all regulars who are on the injured list.<\/p>\n<p>Robert has been sidelined for two weeks with lumbar spine disc herniation and isn\u2019t close to returning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>President of baseball operations David Stearns said Tuesday that Robert\u2019s back soreness had \u201cnot resolved\u201d and the outfielder was seeing additional specialists.<\/p>\n<p>The Mets traded for Robert in the offseason despite the outfielder\u2019s injury issues the last two seasons with the White Sox and put together a schedule during spring training that they took into the regular season in an attempt to keep him healthy, but it didn\u2019t prevent him from hitting the IL.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.47338129;display:block\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39360724\" width=\"869\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/tags-detroit-tigers-third-baseman-127595315.jpg\" alt=\"New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez (4) tags out Detroit Tigers third baseman Colt Keith (33) on a play at the plate ending the fifth inning.\" class=\"wp-image-39360724\"  \/>Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez (4) tags out Detroit Tigers third baseman Colt Keith (33) on a play at the plate on May 12, 2026. John Jones-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have not gotten that indication,\u2019\u2019 Stearns said of surgery potentially being a possibility.<\/p>\n<p>Jorge Polanco\u2019s recovery from the left Achilles bursitis that\u2019s plagued him much of the season has also been slow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to get asymptomatic on the ankle,\u2019\u2019 Stearns said. \u201cWe have really good days and then it flares up. We need it so he can play every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lindor is due to get a followup MRI on his strained left calf in the coming days and is out of a walking boot. The Mets won\u2019t have a timeline for the shortstop\u2019s potential return until they get the results of the latest imaging.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The hits keep coming for the Mets- and the good kind.
