It\u2019s been a rough season for C.J. Gardner-Johnson.<\/p>\n

The safety was released by the Ravens on Tuesday, marking the second time he has been cut this season already.<\/p>\n

ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter reported that the split was \u201can amicable mutual decision,\u201d<\/a> according to Gardner-Johnson\u2019s agent, Kevin Conner.<\/p>\n

It comes after the Ravens, who are off to a shocking 1-5 start and headed into their bye week, traded for another safety, Alohi Gilman, in a deal with the Chargers last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the Ravens traded for a safety, we were looking for a clearer path to play,\u201d Conner told ESPN.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old Gardner-Johnson was released by the Texans earlier this season<\/a> after the Eagles traded him to Houston in the offseason.<\/p>\n

The Texans\u2019 decision came \u201cafter friction behind the scenes with [Gardner-Johnson] complaining about his role, wanting to blitz more \u2026 and even communicating that he wanted to be traded,\u201d according to KPRC beat writer Aaron Wilson.<\/p>\n

It is unclear if there\u2019s a particular team that already has interest in Gardner-Johnson, who did not suit up for any games for Baltimore.<\/p>\n

Gardner-Johnson had 11 tackles in three games for the Texans before they moved on from him.<\/p>\n

The Florida native has had a number of controversies both on and off the field. He was ejected from a game last season<\/a> against the Commanders for two unsportsmanlike penalties before flipping off the Washington crowd on his way off the field.<\/p>\n

He also trolled Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift<\/a> after the Eagles beat the Chiefs in the Super Bowl last season. Gardner-Johnson posted a meme that said the tight end \u201cShould\u2019ve stayed w that thick s****,\u201d in reference to Kelce\u2019s ex, Kayla Nicole.<\/p>\n

That would likely eliminate the Chiefs from pursuing Gardner-Johnson, but he and his agent are banking one of the other 29 teams that he hasn\u2019t already played for this season from reaching out.<\/p>\n
