NYC\u2019s traffic cameras are now writing fiction.<\/p>\n

The famous \u201cKnight Rider\u201d car KITT has been hit with a speeding ticket in Brooklyn \u2014 despite sitting on display inside an Illinois automotive museum for years.<\/p>\n

The Volo Museum, based north of Chicago, said it received a $50 ticket from the New York City Department of Finance tied to its replica of the famous TV car from the 1980s series starring David Hasselhoff<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, this is a new one \u2026 we got this in the mail today. This is 100% legit,\u201d the museum wrote in a Facebook post<\/a> on May 7.<\/p>\n

According to the citation, a traffic camera recorded the car speeding through a Brooklyn school zone on Ocean Parkway at 1:02 p.m. April 22, clocking it at 36 mph in a 25-mph zone.<\/p>\n

The museum said the vehicle \u2014 a black 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am replica \u2014 has not left the display in its building and has been parked there for years.<\/p>\n

The museum also shared a photo of the ticket issued by the New York City Department of Finance.<\/p>\n

Museum officials believe the city\u2019s system may have mistakenly linked a novelty \u201cKnight\u201d license plate to the museum\u2019s display vehicle.<\/p>\n

The car at the museum is not one of the original screen-used vehicles from \u201cKnight Rider,\u201d which aired from 1982 to 1986.<\/p>\n

Five original cars survived production, according to Autoevolution<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The museum\u2019s version was built in 1991 by Mark Scricani of Mark\u2019s Custom Kits using original design plans, and was created to promote his business producing KITT accessories for fans.<\/p>\n

The museum said it has requested a hearing to dispute the ticket.<\/p>\n
