{"id":23247,"date":"2025-10-30T22:20:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-30T22:20:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/23247\/"},"modified":"2025-10-30T22:20:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-30T22:20:11","slug":"nyc-adding-benches-leaning-bars-at-nearly-9000-bus-stops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/23247\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC adding benches, leaning bars at nearly 9,000 bus stops"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Adams administration wants <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mta.info\/schedules\/bus\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">bus riders<\/a> to take a load off, announcing Thursday that the city would be making a $40 million investment toward installing benches or \u201cleaning bars\u201d at nearly 9,000 stops around the city that currently lack any seating options.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo make New York City the best place to raise a family, and grow old in we have to take care of the big things and the small things,\u201d Mayor Adams said in a statement. \u201cI am proud that this effort will give New Yorkers a break and transform the bus-riding experience for thousands of people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The effort is expected to take ten years, with the city committing to installing 875 benches or bars per year at a total of 8,750 bus stops.
