There are many reasons to visit Governors Island<\/a> this summer:\u00a0QC Spa New York<\/a>\u00a0unveiled a full-service restaurant<\/a> last month and is bringing\u00a0a summertime DJ series to its outdoor garden, the\u00a0Smorgasbord team, on the other hand, recently debuted Six Coasts<\/a>, a seaside restaurant and bar that feels like the Caribbean.\u00a0Now, one of Brooklyn\u2019s best restaurants is also setting the island aflame: Theodora.<\/p>\n

Theodora<\/a> is bringing its live fire cookery to Governors Island with Theodora Beach Club<\/a>. Presented by Resy and media partner VinePair, the restaurant will be taking over the sandy taco shack, Taco Vista, all summer long, throwing\u00a0weekend beach parties and swanky, late-night dinners. Of course,\u00a0this isn\u2019t the first time Theodora has taken their love of fire cooking on the road<\/a>, as owner\/chef Tomer Blechman and his staff teamed up with the immersive outdoor cooking experience, Terra Firma, to cook Caribbean snapper in Antigua. They have, however, been looking to recreate it on a larger scale.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOur team has spent the past year exploring how live fire cooking can be brought to NYC diners in dynamic ways, beyond the walls of Theodora,\u201d says a spokesperson for the restaurant. \u201cWe\u2019re lucky to get to cook with wood-fire every day, and our team is always seeking new ways to push the techniques and the flavors. This is what led us to create this series as a way to share the style of cooking we love with people who are drawn to these flavors of smoke and fire.\u201d\u00a0The team will be bringing its iron grills to the island allowing them to cook with the fire and flame but also explore \u201changing meat, fish and seasonal vegetables over the fire for slower cooking and incredible smokey flavors.\u201d<\/p>\n

The beach club will bring two separate experiences to get down to this summer. Friday nights (priced at $100) bring a more casual affair with free welcome cocktails and bites cooked over live fire, paired with late-night grooves and tunes. But for a bit more formality, Saturdays bring communal and coursed dinners set to the price of $200, backdropped with skyline views of NYC. Over the course of the summer, the team will be inviting a few of their friends to help them tame the flames, including Charly Pretet of Terra Firma, Andrew Clarke of Acme Fire Cult and \u201cTop Chef\u201d contestant, Lana Lagomarsini.\u00a0Beverage pairings and \u00e0 la carte wine and cocktails are not included, and events may be modified or canceled due to the weather. <\/p>\n
