Streets in the Van Nest section of the Bronx flooded Thursday after a water main break sent water gushing from the ground and pouring down Hunt Avenue.<\/p>\n
\tField operators with the Department of Environmental Protection were at the scene assessing the damage and working to repair the break.<\/p>\n
\tResidents say they\u2019ve been without running water for hours.<\/p>\n
\t\u201cWe can\u2019t flush our toilets, obviously…we can\u2019t prepare our meals,\u201d said neighbor Jessica Rosado, whose building has been without water since the morning.<\/p>\n
\tOthers say the flooding spread quickly.<\/p>\n
\t\u201cWe noticed the water coming out the side like someone opened the hydrant. Then I look up\u2014it\u2019s pouring out the tree and now it\u2019s coming out the sidewalk,\u201d one resident told News 12.<\/p>\n
\tThe FDNY responded to the scene early Thursday and warned neighbors that the water could wash away dirt beneath the road, possibly causing the street to collapse.<\/p>\n
\tResidents say they\u2019ve been told repairs could take several hours. One neighbor, Maria, told News 12 that she\u2019s growing anxious because she can\u2019t wash her face or shower due to an eye condition that requires frequent cleaning.<\/p>\n
