A 23-year-veteran paramedic<\/a> and former Marine died in the line of duty yesterday after finishing a shift at the FDNY Training Academy at Randalls Island, Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker<\/a> announced on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe FDNY is mourning the loss of Paramedic Salih Abdur Rahman, a dedicated Paramedic who served the people of New York for more than two decades,\u201d Tucker said in a statement. \u201cHe touched the lives of so many EMTs and Paramedics, and the many whose lives he saved. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and his three young children, and his family and friends.\u201d<\/p>\n

Salih Abdur Rahman, 46, became a member of the FDNY in 2002 when he was 23. He was assigned to Station 8 in Kips Bay in Manhattan<\/a> at the start of his career, before moving to Station 16 in Harlem and then Station 13 in Washington Heights, where he worked for nine years. After being promoted to paramedic in 2021, he worked at Stations 8 and 4 in lower Manhattan. He was assigned to the FDNY Training Academy at Randalls Island at the time of his death.<\/p>\n

Before joining the FDNY, Abdur Rahman served in Japan as a Marine for five years.<\/p>\n

Abdur Rahman is survived by three daughters and his wife, who he lived with in Manhattan.<\/p>\n

He was a Boy Scout leader<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Information about how he died was not immediately available.
