{"id":235085,"date":"2026-05-18T10:22:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T10:22:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/235085\/"},"modified":"2026-05-18T10:22:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T10:22:20","slug":"18-year-old-charged-after-fatal-hit-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/235085\/","title":{"rendered":"18-year-old charged after fatal hit &#038; run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">POTSDAM, New York (WWNY) &#8211; 18-year-old Jakob Krise of Brasher Falls is charged by Potsdam Police after a fatal hit-and-run crash Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Police have identified the victim as 20-year-old Emily Smith of Greenville, NY who was at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wwnytv.com\/2026\/05\/16\/suny-potsdam-student-dies-after-struck-by-vehicle\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wwnytv.com\/2026\/05\/16\/suny-potsdam-student-dies-after-struck-by-vehicle\/\">SUNY Potsdam as a sophomore <\/a>studying business administration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Police said it happened at 3:37am Saturday on Pierrepont Avenue, and the suspect vehicle fled the scene southbound on New York State Route 56 and then went onto Garfield Road in the Town of Potsdam.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Potsdam police say they found the suspect driving in the village around 7:20am Saturday and the black SUV had damage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Krise is charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash resulting in death, zero tolerance driving while intoxicated, and driving across hazardous markings.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WWNY.
