New York editor-in-chief David Haskell announced today that Samuel Hine is joining the magazine as senior men\u2019s style editor. At New York, Hine will write a weekly men\u2019s style newsletter that blends reporting, insider access, and analysis and produce feature stories, commentary, and short-form social video. He will also be a key contributor to an upcoming stand-alone print issue on men\u2019s style \u2014 the first fully devoted to the topic in the magazine\u2019s nearly 60-year history. He starts on May 26.<\/p>\n
Launching this Fall, New York\u2019s men\u2019s issue will examine the state of men\u2019s fashion through the magazine\u2019s distinct cultural lens. It will be an ambitious, deeply reported look at how men dress, and what that says about power, identity, and culture now, with lavish photography and lively storytelling. The magazine will look at the designers, businesses, and characters shaping the industry alongside the talent everyone will be talking about next.<\/p>\n
\u201cSam\u2019s rise at GQ has been incredibly fun to watch,\u201d said Haskell. \u201cHe\u2019s become a true authority in men\u2019s fashion, a writer with enthusiasm and discernment and deep knowledge of what\u2019s genuinely interesting right now, and a journalist with an easy facility across storytelling formats. I can\u2019t think of anyone better to join our staff as we set out to create this special issue on men\u2019s style and to cover the subject more intentionally throughout the year in newsletters, features, on social media, and more.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hine was most recently GQ\u2019s global fashion correspondent, overseeing the magazine\u2019s global fashion coverage and writing the popular newsletter Show Notes. He also profiled designers, celebrities, artists, and influencers across the magazine and GQ.com. He was one of the most prominent ambassadors for the GQ brand around the world, a regular presence on industry panels and podcasts, and frequently quoted in major news outlets. He joined GQ as editorial assistant to then\u2013GQ Style editor-in-chief Will Welch in 2016. In that role, he helped Welch build GQ Style and co-hosted the celebrated podcast Corporate Lunch and was steadily promoted prior to assuming his most recent role.<\/p>\n
New York has seen continued success with new print products over the past few years, including The Cut\u2019s twice-yearly fashion issues (launched in September 2024), a dedicated Hamptons issue (launched in June 2025), a small book on the style of the Parisian man (February 2026), and special-edition broad sheet Look Books published throughout the New York Film Festival and Frieze New York, and custom Look Book partnerships.
