On Saturday night, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce attended a wedding in Bushwick, Brooklyn\u2014and the pop star was wearing a suite of jewels that once belonged to Elizabeth Taylor. The actress purchased the set\u2014featuring chandelier earrings, bracelets, and a ring all crafted from black opals and natural Australian crystal\u2014from designer Darlene De Sedle in 1999.<\/p>\n

Taylor\u2019s opal jewelry was later sold as part of Christie\u2019s 2011 Collection of Elizabeth Taylor auction, and then sold again by Fox Estate Jewelry via 1stDibs<\/a> in late 2025. The sale took place \u201cduring Christmas time,\u201d jewelry dealer Adam Fox said in a video<\/a> posted to Instagram. \u201cOn the majority of these online platforms, for higher-ticket items, somebody will reach out, ask questions. Sometimes they will try to negotiate, sometimes they won\u2019t. This just randomly sold.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Fox saw Swift wearing the set, he told Page Six<\/a>, \u201cI was like, ah, this makes so much more sense.\u201d The set was purchased by a sports agent; Fox assumed it was a gift from Kelce to Swift. He added, \u201cI\u2019m just glad it went to somebody that actually appreciates it. I know Taylor Swift has a song about Elizabeth Taylor, and it all makes sense. It seems like it was bought with a lot of purpose; there was obviously a lot of thought put into this one. And coming from somebody like Elizabeth Taylor and going to somebody who, among today\u2019s generation, is just as recognizable as Taylor was back then? I think that\u2019s very cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

The lead single on Swift\u2019s album The Life of a Showgirl, \u201cOpalite,\u201d is likely inspired by her relationship with Kelce\u2014opals are his birthstone, and throughout the song, she sings about her fianc\u00e9. \u201cOpalite is a song about forgiving yourself for having gone through something that didn\u2019t pan out the way you wanted it to,\u201d Swift explained. \u201cIt\u2019s giving yourself permission to not have it all figured out or not marry the first person you ever dated.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elizabeth Taylor inspired another song on the album, aptly titled \u201cElizabeth Taylor,\u201d and in March, Swift released a music video for the track<\/a> that features clips from the actress\u2019s life and movies. \u201cMy family loves the song, and grandma would have loved it too\u2014I wish she could have heard it,\u201d Quinn Tivey, Taylor\u2019s grandson and a trustee of her estate, who represents the Elizabeth Taylor brand and the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, told Town & Country<\/a> when the album dropped this past fall. \u201cTaylor Swift not only made a beautiful homage to Elizabeth Taylor, but it feels like she is addressing her directly while invoking her legacy in a way that is dimensional, confessional, honest, and fun. It dances across the trappings of fame and the rollercoaster of falling in love and has so many heartfelt references, from the iconic perfume White Diamonds to her jewelry and, of course, her love of love.\u201d<\/p>\n
