The New York dance scene has taken another blow. The Brooklyn Mirage<\/a> has been scheduled to be demolished, according to permit filings made with New York City\u2019s Department of Buildings<\/a> on October 10. Once the crown jewel of the city, the Mirage stood as the best venue for dance music. After not opening the whole summer due to structural problems, they filed for bankruptcy.<\/a> Now, as many had suspected for months, the entire structure will be demolished without ever opening its doors. <\/p>\n

The demolition permit looks to demolish 32,000 sq ft of structure and will cost approximately $1.5million, not a small bill for a bankrupt company with a lot of unhappy creditors. What\u2019s more, there is no timeline for when this demolition will occur or when it will be completed. <\/p>\n

The Mirage has been closed since 2024, following a last-minute cancellation of its 2025 season<\/a> due to unresolved permitting issues. They attempted to renovate the venue; however, it did not go as planned. Avant Gardner, the venue\u2019s parent, previously indicated hopes to revive the space in 2026 and beyond. This demolition proposal comes shortly after Avant Gardner filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, citing liabilities of up to $500 million against assets of under $100 million. Meanwhile, two other venues on the property\u2014the Great Hall and Kings Hall\u2014are still operating.<\/p>\n

Now speculation mounts as to whether there will ever be another Brooklyn Mirage in that space.
