Six-year-old twins who were injured last week in a deadly fire in the Bronx have died, their father said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Their father, Kwesi Harris, said the twins, Isis and Oseaes, had been hospitalized in critical condition after inhaling smoke from a fire on May 11<\/a>. The blaze ripped through their second-floor apartment in the Fordham neighborhood of the Bronx and killed their 1-year-old brother, Liam.<\/p>\n Mr. Harris said he and his wife had donated four of Oseaes\u2019s organs to three recipients. But losing three children at once has left them reeling.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not doing well,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen I exercise every day, my children are with me. Now, they are not here.\u201d<\/p>\n Mr. Harris said he was frustrated on Tuesday because his family needed more time to stay at a hotel where they have been sheltering since the fire, but he could not find anyone to help. The deadline for them to leave is Wednesday.<\/p>\n A spokesman for the Office of Emergency Management, which coordinates the city\u2019s response to crises, said officials had extended the family\u2019s stay to June.<\/p>\n The number of people who have died from fire-related injuries has risen to 46 so far this year, up from 28 over the same period in 2025, according to the Fire Department. Two of the victims who died this year were injured in fires that occurred in 2023 and 2025.<\/p>\n Fire officials have said there is no singular trend driving the rise in deaths. However, in some instances, they said that doors left open have allowed fires to spread and become more deadly. Officials have also expressed concern about people over the age of 65<\/a>, who make up a majority of fire victims.<\/p>\n A 73-year-old woman and her daughter, 48, were two of four people who died<\/a> as a result of a fire on May 4 in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan. That blaze and another on March 16 in Queens<\/a> are now the deadliest fires so far this year.<\/p>\n There have been 30 fatal fires so far this year, with the Bronx and Brooklyn having nine each. There have been eight deadly blazes in Queens and four in Manhattan.<\/p>\n The Bronx was the only borough to have both the most fires (nine) and the most people to perish because of them (14).<\/p>\n The victims identified so far have ranged in age from a 17-day-old girl to an 81-year-old man.
