Local charity South Seeds is preparing to open a new venue in the former football changing rooms on Queen’s Park Recreation Ground.<\/p>\n
The building, which had been vacant for a number of years, has been renovated following a long-term lease agreement with Glasgow City Council. Construction work was carried out by Clydebank-based contractor Go-Wright, with energy-efficiency measures including rooftop solar panels and air-source heat pumps incorporated into the redevelopment.<\/p>\n
The Changing Rooms has been readied for opening in spring 2026 with help from a volunteer \u201cwork party\u201d who have put the finishing touches to the site. They have contributed to work needed on landscaping, decorating and site clearance \u2013 transforming it from a derelict building covered in graffiti, to warm multifunctional space powered by solar panels and available for the community\u00a0<\/p>\n
The project was supported by a range of public and charitable funding sources, including contributions from Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government. According to South Seeds, the facility will support its work around sustainable living and provide advice and support to local residents concerned about energy costs.<\/p>\n
The building will become the new home of the Southside Tool Library, which already allows residents to borrow tools for DIY and repair projects. The venue will also offer bookable community space for meetings, events and activities, while a programme of workshops and community events is planned throughout the year.<\/p>\n
A kiosk facing onto the park is expected to be operated by a food and drink business, with further details to be announced. The facility also includes storage lockers for park users and local sports groups.<\/p>\n
The redevelopment was made possible through the People Make Glasgow Communities programme, which enables community organisations to take on long-term leases of council-owned assets. South Seeds was among the early organisations to secure a long-term lease through the initiative.<\/p>\n
To mark the opening, South Seeds will host a community launch event, A Grand Day Out at The Changing Rooms, on Saturday 30 May, from 1pm to 5pm.
