NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) \u2014 A big cleanup is underway after heavy downpours and thunderstorms created flash flooding<\/a> across the area.<\/p>\n

New York City was put under a severe weather warning<\/a> on Wednesday as torrential downpours\u00a0approached the area after a round of dangerous heat.<\/p>\n

Drivers on the Long Island Expressway were forced to make U-turns and go against the traffic because of roadways blocked by flooding in Queens.<\/p>\n

In Bushwick, Brooklyn, residents were seen trying to watch and drive through knee-high street flooding, while others tried to help clear catch basins.<\/p>\n
