Zohran Mamdani<\/a>, who became the New York City (NYC) Mayor earlier this year, has fired back at Jeff Bezos<\/a> regarding the latter\u2019s recent comments about taxes in America. The Working Families Party leader took to social media to snap back at Bezos<\/a> for trying to imply that a rise in billionaires\u2019 taxes wouldn\u2019t improve the situation of the working class.<\/p>\n

Zohran Mamdani slams Jeff Bezos for \u2018taxes\u2019 comment<\/p>\n

On May 20, the NYC Mayor reposted a clip of the Amazon founder\u2019s recent interview on social media, along with a sarcastic one-liner in the caption.<\/p>\n

Zohran Mamdani\u2019s comeback came after Jeff Bezos remarked to CNBC\u2019s<\/a> Andrew Ross Sorkin that doubling his taxes would do no good to average earners like teachers. \u201cPeople sometimes say that I don\u2019t pay taxes. Not true, I pay billions of dollars in taxes\u2026If people want me to pay more billions, then let\u2019s have that debate. But don\u2019t pretend that that\u2019s gonna solve the problem,\u201d he told Sorkin. \u201cYou could double the taxes I pay, and it\u2019s not gonna help that teacher in Queens. I promise you. You cannot connect the two things, not logically.\u201d<\/p>\n

In response, Mamdani wrote on X (formerly Twitter)<\/a>, \u201cI know a few teachers in Queens who would beg to differ.\u201d<\/p>\n

During his CNBC interview, Bezos also criticized Mamdani for going after Citadel CEO\u00a0Ken Griffin in a video that saw him unveil a new pied-\u00e0-terre tax. The 62-year-old business mogul noted that it wasn\u2019t right on Mamdani\u2019s part to \u201cstand in front of Ken Griffin\u2019s house and act like he is some kind of villain. Ken Griffin isn\u2019t a villain, he hasn\u2019t hurt anybody, he\u2019s not hurting New York, in fact, quite the opposite.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later, Jeff Bezos also shed light on the rising rent prices in the country, claiming that the government\u2019s constant intervention in markets was the primary reason behind this trend. Meanwhile, he has yet to respond to Zohran Mamdani\u2019s recent remark.<\/p>\n
