TOPEKA (KSNT<\/a>) \u2013 Local high school track & field athletes clinched their tickets to the Class 6A state tournament at the Washburn Rural Regional.<\/p>\n

Manhattan saw the most automatic state qualifiers with 27 girls and 27 boys placing in the top three of their events to punch a ticket to state.<\/p>\n

For the girls, Washburn Rural placed fourth as a team with 16 event qualifiers, followed by Junction City in sixth with 14 and Topeka High in seventh with three.<\/p>\n

For the Boys, Washburn Rural placed second with 16 event qualifiers. Junction City took third with 14, and Topeka High finished in seventh with three.<\/p>\n

Amongst the winners was Washburn Rural\u2019s Christian Hartman-Babb, who set a PR in the boys\u2019 100 meters with a time of 10.36 to take first place at regionals. According to Mile Split, that is the fastest 100m time in Kansas this season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t really looking for a time,\u201d Hartman-Babb told 27 Sports. \u201cTo have a state lead time going into the state meet is a huge confidence boost.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the Junior Blues, freshman Alyson Hinck beat a school record in the girl\u2019s 800 meter with a time of 2:16.83. She beat Washburn Rural\u2019s school record by 0.4.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels really good,\u201d Hinck noted to 27 Sports. \u201cI just didn\u2019t think I could ever do it, but I\u2019m glad I did. I\u2019m just glad I pushed it for my all and got my ticket to state.\u201d<\/p>\n

The field events was highlighted by a first place finish from Junction City\u2019s J\u2019Sean Green in the boy\u2019s triple jump. He hit a personal best with a 45-2.50 mark.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year I\u2019m just doing what god\u2019s will has for me and just going out there and competing with all my heart,\u201d Green told 27 Sports.<\/p>\n

The Class 6A state meet will be at Wichita State from May 29-30.<\/p>\n
