In this episode of “Tiempo,” we’re looking at the growth of the Latino population in the suburbs.<\/p>\n
While the city continues to be home to the largest concentration of Latinos, the settlement patterns have changed.<\/p>\n
Specifically, new research reveals a demographic shift where Latinos set up roots in New York, though more are settling in the suburbs.<\/p>\n
We’ll talk more about the CUNY Graduate Center’s findings in this episode.<\/p>\n
There’s also another eye-opening study about the New York immigration population in the state.<\/p>\n
The findings corroborate what many have known all along, immigrants are an essential economic and social pillar.<\/p>\n
The study also provides some noteworthy numbers, such as immigrants without legal status contribute $3.1 billion in state and local taxes, and 32% of business owners in New York State are immigrants.<\/p>\n
The Immigration Research Initiative compiled the data. It is a non-profit that studies immigration issues.<\/p>\n
