A 29-year-old New Jersey man has was killed in the Unionport section of The Bronx in the early hours of Sunday, May 24, police said.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Police said that police responded to a 911 call on Sunday at around 00.17 a.m. regarding a man who had been shot in front of 2201 Haviland Avenue, within the confines of the 43rd Precinct.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cUpon arrival, officers were informed a 29-year-old male sustained a gunshot wound to the chest,\u201d a police spokesperson said. \u201cThe victim was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital by private means where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Police said no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. Some bottles of liquor and a lighter were seen on the sidewalk at the location though they had not been labeled or taken away as evidence so were likely not relevant.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The remains of police tape was also seen at the scene suggesting the crime scene unit had already wrapped up their investigation.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n On Sunday afternoon, the deceased was identified as Jonathan Valentin from Maywood, NJ.<\/p>\n Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD\u2019s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
