A powerful new partnership is set to deepen the reach and impact of jazz across communities in New York and New Jersey, as Jazz Power Initiative (JPI) and WBGO officially join forces around a shared mission: preserving, presenting, and teaching jazz as a living, breathing force for connection and growth.<\/p>\n

Announced in late March, the collaboration brings together two institutions rooted in community engagement and cultural preservation. The partnership will link JPI\u2019s strong presence in Upper Manhattan<\/a>\u2014Harlem, Washington Heights, and Inwood\u2014with WBGO\u2019s base in Newark, extending their combined reach across the New York metropolitan area and into a global audience.<\/p>\n

For JPI co-founder and Artistic Director Eli Yamin, known as \u201cDr. E,\u201d the collaboration feels like a natural evolution. He described the relationship as familial, noting that both organizations have long shared a commitment to keeping jazz accessible and relevant for audiences of all ages. By working together, he emphasized, they can expand their service and deepen their cultural impact.<\/p>\n

WBGO President and CEO Steven A. Williams echoed that sentiment, pointing to collaboration as a core principle not only in community work but within jazz<\/a> itself. He highlighted the untapped potential of the partnership, suggesting it could significantly broaden cultural and educational opportunities for listeners and participants alike.<\/p>\n

Together, the organizations bring decades of experience to the table. WBGO, a cornerstone of jazz broadcasting for more than 40 years, reaches millions through its 88.3 FM signal, digital streaming, and nationally syndicated programming like \u201cJazz Night in America.\u201d Meanwhile, JPI has spent over two decades cultivating young talent through immersive programs that combine music, theater, and dance, reaching thousands of students and educators across Northern Manhattan.<\/p>\n

The partnership is expected to officially launch in April with joint initiatives designed to engage audiences on multiple levels\u2014from live performances and educational programming to expanded media content.
