Queen Latifah<\/a> seems to be in a really happy place in her life, and her family is a big part of that. That\u2019s probably why the Oscar nominee is so protective of them and her personal business. But more and more, Latifah, has decided to share a little bit more of a glimpse into her life<\/a>, stepping out publicly with her partner Eboni Nichols<\/a> and her son, Rebel<\/a>. And it all started when she publicly acknowledged them while accepting her Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2021 BET Awards, saying, \u201cEboni, my love. Rebel, my love,\u201d before adding, \u201cHappy Pride.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Angie Martinez asked her about this during an appearance on her Angie Martinez IRL Podcast, where she called Eboni \u201cyour wife,\u201d Latifah joked, \u201cIt was the damn Pride, we in LA!\u201d <\/p>\n

But then the star got real. <\/p>\n

\u201cI was getting a Lifetime Achievement Award, and I didn\u2019t want to leave out the people who were part of the lifetime,\u201d she said. \u201cThat\u2019s about it. It\u2019s really that simple. It\u2019s not more complicated than that. And it\u2019s funny because it\u2019s not always that deep.\u201d <\/p>\n

She continued, bemoaning the obsession people have with knowing others\u2019 personal lives. <\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are just so fascinated about people\u2019s private lives. Like so fascinated by what you\u2019re doing with your private life. Why? Is it because you\u2019re curious, is it because you\u2019re intrigued?\u201d she asked. <\/p>\n

For Latifah, that fascination has moved her to be private.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mind my business. It\u2019s ok to mind your business and handle your business,\u201d she said. \u201cI realize that a lot of people like talking about other people\u2019s business. Even before it was all the pages and everything, when it was like The National Enquirer, people would bring those things to me or bring gossip to people near me and around me. And I\u2019m like, what is the point of that? Why are you telling me this? What do you think you\u2019re doing by telling me that you read something about me somewhere? Then I gotta look at the person who\u2019s bringing me the message. What do you get out of this? Do you care about me?\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cThere\u2019s nothing positive that\u2019s going to come from me having this knowledge right now. So really this is for you, this is not for me. So I told everybody around me, \u201cDon\u2019t bring that sh-t to me. If you read it, you read it\u2026I don\u2019t what to hear that sh-t. Keep it where you at.\u201d So some of it and some of my ability to keep things to myself is me also respecting other people\u2019s privacy. I know a lot about a lot of different people, but it\u2019s not really my place for me to share their business necessarily because many of them, like myself, we\u2019re all growing up. We\u2019re not perfect and I make mistakes, and other people make mistakes too.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Latifah is clear that she\u2019s not hiding anything. When she is ready to make a statement, whether verbally or with her family by her side, there\u2019s no mistaking the message. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I need to say something about something I\u2019m clear about it\u2026But I don\u2019t have to say everything about everything, and I don\u2019t need to say everything about my private life because it\u2019s my private life, and I love the people that are in my life,\u201d she said. \u201cI talk to the people I know who actually care about me. I don\u2019t go to people who are strangers who don\u2019t necessarily have my best interest at heart. I talk to the people who actually care about me and try to navigate my life with them, and they also try to do the same with me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Latifah and Nichols have been linked since about 2013.
