MGM\u2019s Empire City Casino in Yonkers has sent a letter to the Gaming Commission indicating that it is dropping out of the race for a state gaming license.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, MGM Resorts issued a statement saying, in part, \u201cThe newly defined competitive landscape \u2013 with four proposals clustered in a small geographic area \u2013 challenges the returns we initially anticipated from this project.\u201d<\/p>\n
The company was planning to spend more than $2 billion to expand the existing casino into a full-fledged resort.<\/p>\n
The company said in its statement that it remains committed “to operating the property in its current format.”<\/p>\n
Only three full casino proposals remain: Resorts World and Metropolitan Park in Queens, and Bally\u2019s in the Bronx.<\/p>\n
