Upstate New Yorkers instead say \u201cacrost\u201d for \u201cacross,\u201d sip \u201cmelk\u201d as opposed to \u201cmilk\u201d and exclaim \u201cJeezum Crow!\u201d rather than outright risk profanity like their downstate neighbors.<\/p>\n
The accent\u2019s Adirondacks home will be the setting for the Netflix series, described by the streamer as a multigenerational drama. <\/p>\n
As with the novel, the show will focus on investigator character Judy Luptack as she delves into the disappearance of a 13-year-old girl from a summer camp.<\/p>\n

Kerry Condon, a chameleon-like Irish actress who received an Academy Award nomination for her role in \u201cThe Banshees of Inisherin,\u201d is set to play the missing girl\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n
The show\u2019s casting director is Laura Rosenthal, a renowned New York-based industry vet whose long list of credits includes \u201cA Quiet Place\u201d and \u201cMay December.\u201d<\/p>\n
But while the series is set within the Adirondacks and will feature its distinct accent, it won\u2019t be filmed there.<\/p>\n
