Photo Credit: Elite Studios.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, May 17, St. Mary\u2019s Healthcare System for Children raised over $175K to support New York\u2019s most medically fragile children at their 20th annual \u201cBig Hearts Walk for St. Mary\u2019s Kids\u201d at Crocheron Park in Bayside. The event attracted hundreds of New Yorkers who partici\u00adpated in the walk, followed by family fun activities, in\u00adcluding carnival games, a ma\u00adgician, face painting, raffles, arts &amp; crafts and more.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s event honored Lynne Koufakis, a member of the New York State Develop\u00admental Disabilities Advisory Council and a passionate ad\u00advocate for individuals with disabilities, and Eileen Al\u00advarez, an experienced pedi\u00adatric nurse at St. Mary\u2019s. These honorees have both made immeasurable contri\u00adbutions to St. Mary\u2019s over the past several years, going above and beyond to serve and advocate for medically fragile children and their families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach generous con\u00adtribution at this year\u2019s Big Hearts Walk helps St. Mary\u2019s to expand access to specialized care and im\u00adprove the lives of the pa\u00adtients who depend on us,\u201d said Sean Lally, President and CEO of St. Mary\u2019s Healthcare System for Children. \u201cIt brings our team so much joy to see the Bayside community come together with such enthusiasm to support medically fragile kids and their families and we are very grateful for everyone who showed up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qgazette.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/2026-05-27\/5p2.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-200605\" class=\"wp-image-200605 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/5p2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a0\" width=\"300\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-200605\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As the only center for pediatric long-term and rehabilitative care in New York City, St. Mary\u2019s has served New York\u2019s children for more than 150 years. St. Mary\u2019s provides a continuum of care to children with medically complex conditions through an inpatient hospital facility in Bayside Queens, as well as home care services and community programs.
