{"id":245695,"date":"2026-05-27T22:35:40","date_gmt":"2026-05-27T22:35:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/245695\/"},"modified":"2026-05-27T22:35:40","modified_gmt":"2026-05-27T22:35:40","slug":"news-12-brooklyn-rockland-county-district-attorney-joins-investigation-into-shoprite-gunfire-incident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/245695\/","title":{"rendered":"News 12 | Brooklyn | Rockland County District Attorney Joins Investigation Into Shoprite Gunfire Incident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">The Rockland County District Attorney\u2019s Office has joined the investigation into the gunfire incident at the Garnerville ShopRite, where an off\u2011duty NYPD official\u2019s weapon discharged during a confrontation last weekend. <\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">According to a statement from the prosecutors office, they agreed to assist Haverstraw police after evaluating the evidence including video of the alleged incident.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">The video has not been publicly released.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">As previously reported, News 12 learned that NYPD Assistant Chief Benjamin Gurley was allegedly involved in a fight with a man in the grocery store parking lot on Sunday night when his gun discharged once. No one was struck.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Gurley\u2019s online NYPD profile shows he has received four awards and completed extensive training sessions over his 26\u2011year career. The profile also indicates he has no disciplinary history.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">A law enforcement source told News 12 on Tuesday that Gurley is now on modified duty following the incident. <\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">News 12 is working to find out whether the gun involved was city department\u2011issued. News 12 has also made multiple requests have been made to view the video.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">We are also seeking more information about the man police say was harassing Gurley\u2019s daughter.
