He served for 8 years as a police officer in Transit District 32 and the 77th Precinct. He was later promoted to sergeant and lieutenant before retiring from the force in 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEdwin Raymond represents the kind of public servant New Yorkers deserve: principled, courageous and deeply committed to justice,\u201d Mamdani said. \u201cThroughout his career, he has\u00a0fought\u00a0to build a public safety system\u00a0rooted in effectiveness,\u00a0accountability\u00a0and public trust.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, Raymond served as the nation\u2019s first social justice liaison in the Office of the New York State Attorney General.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEdwin understands that true safety comes when government earns the confidence of the people it serves, and I am proud to welcome him to our administration as Sheriff of the City of New York,\u201d the mayor said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to multiple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/nypd-minority-arrest-quotas-edwin-raymond\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reports<\/a>, Raymond sued the NYPD in 2015 because he said the department pressured officers to meet quotas in predominantly Black and brown neighborhoods.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He is also a recipient of the NAACP\u2019s Courage Under Fire Award.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"NYC Sheriff Anthony Miranda.
