Mayor Zohran Mamdani has fired New York City Sheriff Anthony Miranda and appointed former NYPD Lieutenant and whistleblower Edwin Raymond.

Raymond, who was with the NYPD for 15 years, wrote a book about his experience in the NYPD.

He also wrote a 2016 article for New York Times Magazine titled “A Black Police Officer’s Fight Against the N.Y.P.D.”

“Edwin Raymond represents the kind of public servant New Yorkers deserve: principled, courageous and deeply committed to justice,” Mayor Mamdani said.
