Gunfire erupted in East New York on Thursday afternoon, with at least one bullet striking an MTA bus, according to police.<\/p>\n
Authorities say no injuries were reported, but evidence left at the scene shows how serious the situation could have been.<\/p>\n
According to police and witnesses, the shooting happened just before 4 p.m. Neighbors say they heard at least three shots ring out in the area.<\/p>\n
Some residents initially dismissed the noise, believing it was too early in the day for gunfire \u2014 until emergency sirens filled the streets. Others reported seeing a group of men running toward Pennsylvania Avenue immediately after the shots were fired.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s nothing new,\u201d said Sylvester, an East New York resident. “I\u2019m just surprised that it happened so early.”<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought it was pretty safe,\u201d another neighbor added. “Now, I\u2019m going to be on the lookout.”<\/p>\n
Police spent hours canvassing the area, marking shell casings and other evidence. At the scene, a bullet hole could be seen piercing the front window of a B100 MTA bus.<\/p>\n
An MTA spokesperson confirmed that no passengers were on board at the time of the shooting.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just a bus, but it could\u2019ve been bystanders walking by \u2014 it could\u2019ve been anything,\u201d Sylvester said.<\/p>\n
