First popularized by the bougie grocery store Butterfield Market, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/food\/trends\/dotcake-trend-explained-bakery-tiktok-rcna347337\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"media-ui-Link_link-tVkXhPLPofs-\" data-component=\"link\">these mini, sprinkle-covered cakes<\/a> are a blight on the city. (Full disclosure: I have not tasted one because I am morally opposed to waiting in line for two hours for an $11 cup of cavities.) Dotcakes are just the latest confection that has New Yorkers in a chokehold. In 2013 it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/cronut-craze-takes-over-manhattan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"media-ui-Link_link-tVkXhPLPofs-\" data-component=\"link\">Dominique Ansel\u2019s cronut<\/a>, in 2016 it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thrillist.com\/eat\/new-york\/chinatown\/rolled-ice-cream-at-nycs-10below-is-worth-the-wait\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"media-ui-Link_link-tVkXhPLPofs-\" data-component=\"link\">rolled ice cream<\/a>, in 2018 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/taiyakinyc\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"media-ui-Link_link-tVkXhPLPofs-\" data-component=\"link\">fish-shaped cake cone<\/a> was everywhere.
