STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Despite gusty winds sweeping through the borough Friday afternoon, costumed crowds filled the streets of West Brighton, undeterred in their quest for Halloween fun.<\/p>\n

Harvest Avenue, a perennial favorite among Staten Island trick-or-treaters, once again lived up to its reputation. Hundreds of families descended on the tree-lined block, which was closed to traffic and transformed into a festive corridor of candy, music, and elaborate decorations.<\/p>\n

Among the revelers was Agnes Kvasz, 38, of Bay Terrace, who strolled the neighborhood with her son, Dominik, who was dressed as a baby bee.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like that the streets are closed off and the kids can just kind of run around,\u201d Kvasz said. \u201cI love the crowd, the music \u2014 everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

For 9-year-old Eudor, of West Brighton, Halloween offered a chance to explore her love of dinosaurs and fantasy.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrick-or-treating has been good and amazing,\u201d she said. \u201cThere\u2019s a house that was Game of Thrones one year, but this time they did a pirate theme.\u201d<\/p>\n

Homeowners embraced the spirit of the season, handing out overflowing baskets of candy and decking their homes with spooky flair. The Labollita family, longtime residents of Harvest Avenue, continued a beloved family tradition.<\/p>\n

Members of the family all gushed about Halloween, standing beside a giant spider adorning their home and explaining that they went for a cute Halloween that\u2019s fun and engaging for everybody.<\/p>\n

Residents Marina and Luca Magnotta, of Harvest Avenue, went all-out with a pirate display on the lawn that featured sparklers.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been great and a lot of great compliments from everyone and remembering all our past years, so it\u2019s been fun,\u201d said Marina Magnotta as she gave out candy.<\/p>\n

Creative costumes were on full display, with families coordinating their looks for warmth and whimsy.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe picked the dinosaur costumes. I wanted to be Cleopatra, but, thank God, it\u2019s too cold,\u201d said Tina Stapleton of her husband, Inna. \u201cThis one, this is really, really warm.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even teens joined in the fun, proving Halloween isn\u2019t just for the little ones.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just started, but we already hit quite a lot,\u201d said Hailey, 17, of Arlington. \u201cWe got some big chocolate bars already.\u201d<\/p>\n

Toni Scamardella, 39, of Old Town, said her family returns to Harvest Avenue year after year.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy sister lives about a block and a half away, so we go to her house,\u201d Scamardella said. \u201cIt\u2019s really wonderful because everyone\u2019s outside. You don\u2019t even have to ring the doorbells \u2014 everyone\u2019s just right there, playing music and being welcoming.\u201d<\/p>\n

Local businesses along Broadway also joined the celebration. Cristian, manager of Radical Change Beauty Salon at 510 Broadway, handed out candy for the first time.<\/p>\n
