Brooklyn Museum’s ‘Museum on Wheels’ Heads to Flatbush for Brooklyn–Queens Day Celebration

Brooklyn–Queens Day takes place on June 4, bringing music, performances, art, and neighborhood celebrations to parts of Flatbush throughout the day. If you’re headed to the festivities, you’ll also find the Brooklyn Museum’s Museum on Wheels parked in the middle of the action, with free activities and interactive art programming for kids and visitors of all ages.

Aptly called Museum on Wheels, this mobile museum is inside a retro silver Airstream trailer covered in colorful murals by Brooklyn artist Christopher Myers. The trailer travels to neighborhoods across Brooklyn, opens its doors, and invites people inside for free. You don’t need tickets or a membership, and can literally just walk in.

The Flatbush stop is happening in honor of both Brooklyn–Queens Day and Caribbean American Heritage Month, which is especially fitting. The block party already celebrates Caribbean culture and community with storytellers, local artists, stilt walkers, and performances, so the museum is an additional highlight.

Families can catch Caribbean Carnival performances featuring steel pan drummers, stilt walkers, and traditional J’Ouvert-inspired characters from JouvayFest Collective, along with hands-on activities like creating Carnival masks and headdresses in partnership with the West Indian American Day Carnival Association.

There will also be Carnival-themed storytimes from Brooklyn Public Library, movement and wellness workshops inspired by Caribbean traditions, herbal workshops, and talks about Christopher Myers’ mosaic at the Church Avenue subway station.

Family Activities for the Kids

Of course, there will also be plenty of kid-friendly fun, including a bounce house, giant Jenga, dominoes, chalk art, and bubble demonstrations from BubbleMan Stephen Duncan.

Carnival-inspired art activities will be led by the museum’s teaching artists. You can also catch live music and performances happening throughout the afternoon, and families can grab giveaways from Island Pops and Brooklyn Tea.

The art activities are first-come, first-served, and spots tend to fill up quickly, so arriving earlier is likely your best bet. Everything is completely free, and all ages are welcome.

Additional highlights include “Inside Out: I See You,” an interactive portrait experience celebrating the 15th anniversary of artist JR’s global Inside Out Project, where visitors can step inside a photo booth and contribute to a living public artwork honoring Flatbush community and culture.

The program launched last year and drew around 4,100 visitors during its first season, and the museum has expanded it with more neighborhood stops this year. After Flatbush, Museum on Wheels heads to Fort Greene for Juneteenth on June 14, then makes additional stops in Coney Island, Williamsburg, and other Brooklyn neighborhoods through October.

The Flatbush celebration takes place at 1305 Cortelyou Road at Argyle Road. The 2026 Museum on Wheels season is supported in part by Brooklyn Org.

For more information, visit brooklynmuseum.org.

Psst… Check Out New York Reopens Applications for Free College Scholarships, Including Excelsior and Tuition Aid
