{"id":247662,"date":"2026-05-29T13:00:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T13:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/247662\/"},"modified":"2026-05-29T13:00:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T13:00:20","slug":"news-12-new-jersey-69","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/247662\/","title":{"rendered":"News 12 | New Jersey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">A Georgia man has been charged in connection with a 1989 cold case homicide in Bayonne, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Joseph Quiros-Soto, 62, is charged with murder and murder during the commission of a burglary, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor&#8217;s Office.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Quiros-Soto was arrested Wednesday at his home in Griffin, Georgia, by the Spalding County Sheriff\u2019s Office. He is being held in Georgia pending extradition to New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Prosecutors say Bayonne police responded Aug. 9, 1989, to a report of a home invasion and shooting at an apartment at 438 Avenue C. Officers found Mauricio Cuadra, 48, of Bayonne, who had been shot by an unknown man who entered the residence.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Cuadra was pronounced dead a short time later.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">According to police documents, Quiros-Soto went to police in Locust Grove, Georgia, on Aug. 28, 2024, and confessed to the 1989 killing. Prosecutors say he later told Hudson County detectives that he was a born-again Christian and wanted to confess after speaking with his pastor.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Authorities say Quiros-Soto provided details only the killer would know.
