I was born and raised in a Section 8 apartment in Los Sures, Williamsburg as the son of two Dominican immigrants. I shared a room with my two sisters until I was 18-years-old, and for each of those years, we relied on government programs to put clothes on our backs, food on the table, and a roof over our heads.<\/p>\n
There is no former Councilmember Reynoso, there is no Borough President Reynoso, and there is no Antonio without the support of my government and the unwavering faith of my neighbors who I\u2019ve spent my whole life learning from.<\/p>\n
Living in Congressmember Nydia Vel\u00e1zquez\u2019s district<\/a>, I experienced government as a force for good, a booming voice for the voiceless. But now, Washington has lost its way. Republicans are eating away at the core of our democracy and morals. Corporate Democrats continue to choose their own wallets over their constituents. I refuse to be one of them.<\/p>\n I\u2019m running for Congress because I\u2019ve never let go of my belief that communities deserve leaders who look like them, who know what they need and what they\u2019re scared of, and who will work tirelessly to get things done for them. I know this district because I\u2019m from this district, and I\u2019ve spent my whole career fighting for it: taking on special interests, corporate power, and the political machine to deliver real results to working people.<\/p>\n This seat needs urgency and backbone right now. We need someone who will fight to abolish ICE, repeal the Faircloth Amendment<\/a> so we can build public housing again, end the rampant corruption taking over our democracy, pass the PRO Act, and deliver Medicare for All \u2014 and who has the track record to prove they can actually get things done.<\/p>\n As a Council member, and now borough president, I have never stopped at issuing statements, tweeting thoughts and prayers, or waiting on the sidelines for the worst to blow over.<\/p>\n When Brooklyn faced a maternal health crisis, I delivered $45 million to Brooklyn\u2019s public hospitals<\/a>. When immigrants needed asylum and work authorization, I transformed a room used by previous borough presidents for parties into an asylum application center that helped nearly 6,000 migrants find real pathways to employment and citizenship. When young Black and Brown boys were being unlawfully targeted by stop and frisk tactics, I co-wrote and passed legislation to end their use.<\/p>\n At every turn, whether it was tenants, childcare providers, Black mothers, working families, or immigrants at risk, I jumped into the fray immediately and got to work.<\/p>\n I am the only candidate in this race with a robust record of accomplishments to prove I can enact the platform I\u2019m running on, which is why I have the support of the Working Families Party<\/a>, Vel\u00e1zquez, Attorney General Letitia James and so many progressive champions.<\/p>\n I want to tax the rich, abolish ICE, end useless wars, and fund housing and healthcare for all. I\u2019ve already started at the local level, but now I have a chance to mobilize federal funding and legislative power to continue that fight.<\/p>\n We\u2019re in good hands in New York with Mayor Mamdani and Gov. Hochul, but we\u2019re still under threat from Washington. I\u2019ve lived in this district my whole life, I started my career representing it in the City Council, and now, with more than a decade of public service under my belt, I know I have the knowledge and experience to show up for the community that raised me in Congress.<\/p>\n
