He\u2019s throwing his beret in the ring a third time. <\/p>\n

Former NYC Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa<\/a> is seriously considering another mayoral run \u2013 and the revelation came, strangely, while he was in California last week.<\/p>\n

Sliwa<\/a> was addressing a group of students at Stanford University on May 22 <\/a>when someone asked if he\u2019d run again. <\/p>\n

\u201cI was there speaking about the dangers of AI (artificial intelligence), and many of the students there followed last year\u2019s campaign intently, and some urged me to run,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said . . . \u2018I\u2019ll certainly factor that in.\u2019 I certainly would love to be able to run for mayor of New York City again against [Mayor] Zohran Mandami and anyone else who\u2019s running.\u201d<\/p>\n

He doubled down when asked about his comments by The Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, it\u2019s early in the process now, but if you were to say, \u2018Is it likely you\u2019ll run again?\u2019 Absolutely. What would prevent me from running?\u201d said the Guardian Angels founder, who got walloped in the 2021 mayoral race and again last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think anybody knows more about the City of New York than yours truly when it comes to subways and streets, public safety, quality of life, homeless people, and emotionally disturbed persons who are not being cared for.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sliwa, a 72-year-old Republican, said he\u2019d seek the GOP nomination again and isn\u2019t concerned about the bad blood he\u2019s suffered with members of his own party \u2014 including some who are furious<\/a> because he stiffed plenty of campaign workers of thousands of dollars.<\/p>\n

Sliwa raised $6.87 million for the 2025 race, including qualifying for $5.3 million in public matching funds, but his campaign is currently $323,887 in the red, according to its latest filings in January. <\/p>\n

\"Two\u201cObviously, it\u2019s early in the process now, but if you were to say, \u2018Is it likely you\u2019ll run again?\u2019 Absolutely. What would prevent me from running?\u201d the Guardian Angels founder told The Post. Robert Miller<\/p>\n

He said he\u2019s banking on the NYC Campaign Finance Board releasing additional public matching funds to pay off the campaign\u2019s workers and other debt.<\/p>\n

Sliwa received only 7% of the vote in the November election, badly trailing Mamdani and ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who ran as an independent after losing out to Mamdani on the Democratic nomination.<\/p>\n

He said he has no regrets about staying in the race despite facing immense pressure from many conservatives and moderates to back out and support Cuomo to help prevent Mamdani, a socialist, from winning.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t believe in dropping out,\u201d he said. \u201cLet the people decide.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also said he believes Mamdani has so far done a horrible job in office and hopes he can convince enough Democrats by 2029 to cross-over and support him.<\/p>\n

However, Hank Sheinkopf, a longtime Democratic consultant, said Sliwa would be wasting his time \u2014 and potentially public matching funds paid by taxpayers \u2014 if he ran again.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has about as much chance of becoming mayor as I do of becoming King of Prussia,\u201d he quipped.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"He\u2019s throwing his beret in the ring a third time.
