The final rounds of the 2026 Queen Elisabeth Cello Competition were held at the Salle Henry Le Boeuf, Brussels Centre for Fine Arts (Bozar) from 25 to 30 May 2027. Twelve finalists took to the stage throughout the week, each playing the competition\u2019s imposed work,\u00a0Four Odes to the Tidings of Flowers\u00a0by Fang Man, along with their chosen concerto accompanied by the Belgian National Orchestra, conducted by Anthony Hermus.<\/p>\n

First Prize – Queen Mathilde Prize of \u20ac25,000 was awarded to\u00a0Ettore Pagano (23, Italy), who performed Prokofiev Sinfonia concertante op.125 in his final round. He also receives a four-year loan of the 1733 Matteo Gofriller \u2018Casals\u2019 cello, courtesy of the Pau Casals Foundation.<\/p>\n

Pagano is currently studying at the Universit\u00e4t der K\u00fcnste Berlin under Jens Peter Maintz, having received a bachelor\u2019s degree from\u00a0Santa Cecilia Conservatoire in Rome. His previous competition success includes the Premio Abbiati, ICMA Classeek Award and the\u00a0\u2018Una vita nella Musica – Giovani\u2019 prize in 2025; Second Prize, the audience award and the prize for best sonata at the 2024 Enescu Competition; and First Prize, prize for best sonata and two special prizes at the 2022 Khachaturian Competition.<\/p>\n

Tae-Yeon Kim (20, Korea) won Second Prize, awarded by the Belgian Science Policy (Belspo), worth \u20ac20,000.<\/p>\n

The Count de Launoit\u00a0Third Prize of \u20ac17,000 was awarded to\u00a0Leland Ko (28, US, Canada).<\/p>\n

Fourth Prize, this year awarded by the Government of the French Community, was awarded to\u00a0\u00c1lvaro Lozano Cames (20, Spain), worth \u20ac12,500.<\/p>\n

Yo Kitamura (22, Japan) took Fifth Prize –\u00a0Brussels-Capital Region Prize of \u20ac10,000, while Maria Zaitseva (24, Russia) took\u00a0Sixth Prize – City of Brussels Prize, worth \u20ac8,000.<\/p>\n

Each of the unranked laureates,\u00a0Lionel Martin (23, Germany),\u00a0Ivan Sendetsky (29, Russia),\u00a0Clara Dietlin (24, France),\u00a0Dilshod Narzillaev (28, Uzbekistan),\u00a0Krzysztof Michalski (23, Poland) and\u00a0Andrew Ilhoon Byun (28, Canada) received\u00a0\u20ac4,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The jury was chaired by\u00a0Gilles Ledure and comprised Natalie Clein,\u00a0Roel Dieltiens, Valentin Erben,\u00a0Oph\u00e9lie Gaillard, Anne Gastinel,\u00a0Marie Hallynck,\u00a0Gregor Horsch,\u00a0Anssi Karttunen,\u00a0Daniel M\u00fcller-Schott, Sharon Robinson,\u00a0Jian Wang and\u00a0Sonia Wieder-Atherton.<\/p>\n
