STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 An actress who appeared in \u201cTerrifier\u201d is suing the creators of the popular horror franchise over what she alleges to be a breach of contract and distribution of sexually explicit materials without consent.<\/p>\n
Attorneys for the plaintiff, Catherine Corcoran, allege in court documents that she worked under \u201cextremely difficult and dangerous\u201d conditions for \u201cessentially minimum wage,\u201d with the expectation that she would receive \u201cjust compensation from the profits of the film.\u201d <\/p>\n
Her attorneys further claim that her character was part of the most iconic and enduring scene in the film, which required her to be hung upside down by her ankles for over 10 hours in below freezing temperatures in a condemned building.<\/p>\n
Defendants named in the civil complaint, with Staten Island ties, include Dark Ages Cinema founder Damien Leone and Fuzz on the Lens Productions. Also named are the film\u2019s producer Phil Falcone, and Leone\u2019s banner \u201cArt the Clown\u201d LLC.<\/p>\n
The Staten Island filmmakers could not immediately be reached for comment on Thursday. A woman who answered the phone at Falcone\u2019s residence said he declined to comment. <\/p>\n
The \u201cTerrifier\u201d series, the lawsuit continues, is one of the most popular and profitable independent horror film series produced in the last 25 years. <\/p>\n
\u201cWith an initial budget of only $35,000, the film series has spawned three films and has unexpectedly gone on to earn over $100 million at the box office alone, with much more earned through streaming and merchandise,\u201d argues attorney Peter D. Scott in court documents. <\/p>\n
\u201cTo accommodate the film\u2019s ultra-low budget, Corcoran agreed to act in the film for an extremely low up front per diem rate \u2013 barely more than minimum wage, but with an agreement that she would receive 1% of the profits from and\/or related to the Terrifier motion picture and any future Terrifier motion pictures as well as 1% of the profits from any Terrifier related merchandise.”<\/p>\n
