Kathy Hochul announced the signing of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amny.com\/politics\/mamdani-vetoes-protest-buffer-zone-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Buffer Zone Bill<\/a>, legislation that creates a 50-foot security perimeter between protests and houses of worship.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-137851476\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/DSC00148-copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"780\" title=\"Israel Day Parade marches up 5th Avenue as Hochul signs buffer zone bill 5\"  \/>Photo by Dean Moses<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday we march in defiance, and also to stand up for the values that have defined New York State since its very beginning,\u201d Hochul said. \u201cWe will always be that bastion, that beacon of hope for others to be able to live the way they want to live and practice their religious beliefs freely from harassment. That is why, just one hour ago, I was proud to stand with leaders from JCRC, UJA, and other organizations to sign the Buffer Zone Bill, the first of its kind in New York State.
