{"id":24992,"date":"2025-11-01T10:25:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-01T10:25:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/24992\/"},"modified":"2025-11-01T10:25:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-01T10:25:07","slug":"ny-woman-dulcie-white-was-overserved-alcohol-before-falling-overboard-on-taylor-swift-themed-royal-caribbean-cruise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/24992\/","title":{"rendered":"NY woman Dulcie White was overserved alcohol before falling overboard on Taylor Swift-themed Royal Caribbean cruise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A New York mother who fell overboard during a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/10\/23\/world-news\/passenger-falls-overboard-on-taylor-swift-themed-cruise\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Taylor Swift-themed Royal Caribbean cruise<\/a> was allegedly served too much alcohol \u2014 as her family blamed the crew for the fatal plunge.<\/p>\n<p>Dulcie White\u2019s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the cruise line on Tuesday, a year after the 66-year-old went missing in the Caribbean Sea during a voyage to the Bahamas, according <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/news\/royal-caribbean-balcony-death-lawsuit-south-florida-family\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">to CBS News Miami.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>White, from Westmoreland, NY, was aboard the Allure of the Seas ship with her daughter, Megan Klewin, when she became intoxicated and fell off her balcony on Oct. 22, 2024, 17 miles north of Nassau, Bahamas.<\/p>\n<p>Dulcie White died after falling overboard a Royal Caribbean Cruise on Oct. 22, 2024. CBS Miami\/YouTube<\/p>\n<p>Klewin says her mother purchased the \u201cunlimited alcoholic beverages\u201d package as part of her ticket and was trying to get the most out of her trip.<\/p>\n<p>White was allegedly served seven alcoholic drinks in succession over a span of six hours and eight minutes, her family claimed in the lawsuit obtained by the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of that she did overdo it, trying to maybe get her money\u2019s worth,\u201d Klewin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZA6esV5HmCA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">told the outlet.<\/a> \u201cShe was completely intoxicated in a way I haven\u2019t seen before. It saddens me that that is my last memory of her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Crew members aboard the ship allegedly ignored White as she showed signs of intoxication.<\/p>\n<p>The grandmother of four began slurring her words, swaying, had glassy eyes and alcohol on her breath in front of crewmembers who shouldn\u2019t have served her, the family alleged, according to their lawyer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aronfeld.com\/aronfeld-trial-lawyers-files-wrongful-death-lawsuit-against-royal-caribbean-alleging-over-service-of-alcohol-resulted-in-passengers-overboard-death\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Spencer Aronfeld.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach of these crew members were negligent for continuing to serve her alcoholic beverages in her intoxicated state,\u201d Aronfeld said Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>White fell off her cabin\u2019s balcony while a passenger aboard Royal Caribbean\u2019s Allure of the Seas. CBS Miami\/YouTube<\/p>\n<p>Another passenger helped White return to her cabin at around 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>White and her daughter had stored their luggage out on the balcony to create more space in their room.<\/p>\n<p>Klewin thought her mother was going to grab some clothes from her bag, but when she turned around, she saw White had climbed up and sat on the railing facing the water.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI assumed that\u2019s what she was doing was going to check her suitcase,\u201d Klewin said. \u201cI wasn\u2019t looking and the next chance that I did look up, I saw her back. She was seated on the edge of the balcony like she had climbed up. She was seated and then fell over before I could get to her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>White disappeared into the water around 9:40 p.m., but the ship never turned around, nor were any rescue boats launched to search for her, the family claimed<\/p>\n<p>Two helicopters and crews from the Royal Bahamas Defense Force and the US Coast Guard had taken part in the search for White.<\/p>\n<p>Her body has not been found.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will haunt us for the rest of our lives,\u201d Klewin said. \u201cI feel the overconsumption of alcohol and the over service of alcohol was the cause of this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>White was allegedly served seven alcoholic drinks in succession over a span of six hours and eight minutes, her family claimed in the lawsuit. CBS Miami\/YouTube<\/p>\n<p>Klewin accused the crewmembers of over-serving her mother to make more money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese crew members are incentivized to continue to serve them because that\u2019s how they make their tips.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aronfeld called out the cruise line\u2019s offer of its \u201cunlimited alcoholic beverages\u201d warning of the dangers it creates, especially out at sea.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRoyal Caribbean didn\u2019t just sell drinks\u2014it sold danger, Aronfeld said. This isn\u2019t an accident; it\u2019s an industry pattern.
