The start of construction on two new retail buildings, a parking garage and a park at the Cross County Center in Yonkers was marked with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Yonkers officials, executives from Marx Realty, community leaders and other invited guests.<\/p>\n

The construction project is in an area identified as the North Lot and is described as being one of the most significant additions to Cross County Center in many years\u00a0following the addition of restaurant buildings in 2015 and the \u00a0redevelopment of the former Sears building with a Target store in 2023.<\/p>\n

The project calls for the construction of a 14,000-square-foot building along with a two-story, 44,000-square-foot building and underground parking plus a 4-acre park.<\/p>\n

According to Craig Deitelzweig, CEO of Marx Realty,\u00a0\u201cThese new buildings will help us meet the incredible demand from retailers looking to be part of Cross County Center while creating an even more engaging and community-oriented environment for our visitors with a beautiful new 4-acre park.\u201d<\/p>\n

The park is to include caf\u00e9-style seating, gathering areas, and flexible programming space for seasonal events, farmers markets, wellness programming, and Summer Fest activities. The green space is envisioned as the new \u201cfront door\u201d to the center.<\/p>\n

Marx Realty has been working with GTL Construction, TPG Architecture as architect of record and Dirtworks Landscape Architecture on the design of the new park and landscaped public spaces that will anchor the redevelopment project.<\/p>\n

First opened in 1954 as the nation\u2019s first open-air shopping center, Cross County Center today welcomes approximately 14 million visitors annually and has\u00a0more than 100 retail, dining, entertainment, and educational tenants.
